Mrs. Harp is our teacher, but she is about to have a baby and on Maternity leave. Our teacher this year is Miss Jones and Miss Barbara is our classroom assistant. Mr. Williams will be teaching us in our Physical Education classes and Mrs. Hughes will be visiting to teach us science. On Wednesdays afternoon Miss Jones helps us with our Art projects.
During the lockdown period, we had opportunities to work on different themes such as Dragons, Head and Tail, Hen Wlad fy Nhadau and Inventors.
It was a strange time working at home but we are now back at school with our friends!
We have been looking at the theme of "Chocolate". Roald Dahl's book 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory' has been central to our Chocolate work. We have had the opportunity to create our own character for the book, developing our writing skills. We were able to use the English working wall that contains synonyms to develop our work. We had the opportunity to design a picture to accompany the character using Quentin Blake as inspiration.
At the center of all the hard work, we have completed a 6 week yoga course with Miss Rowlands. We have learned how to control body movements and think about our feelings. We have really enjoyed these lessons! We also had a music lesson with Mrs Hughes. We have been experimenting with plastic bags to make the sounds of the sea.
We are at the center of this theme and have been locating all the beaches on Anglesey. We discussed our favorite beaches and talked about how beaches have changed from the past to the present day. Now, the tasks are focused on The Royal Charter. We have been experimenting with paint to create the design of the ship at Moelfre. We will now focus on the dangers of the Seaside and the problems that arise with waste and litter.
Since September we have been studying people who inspire us, for example footballers, athletes and so on. Following our class discussion, we then went on to create our very own superhero and had to write a story about them.
Môn, Mam Cymru (Anglesey, mother of Wales) is our theme for next term where we will be learning about the Celts and windmills here on Anglesey. One of the big questions we will be discussing is ‘’Who’s responsibility is it to take care of the earth?’’
The Teachers at Ysgol Rhyd y Llan listen to the pupil’s voice. We have an ‘idea wall’, where we can share our ideas for next term’s theme.
We have had a very useful half term when starting our 'Anglesey Mam Cymru' theme.
We have been busy focusing on ‘The Celts’ during our lessons. We had opportunities to work on various tasks as we rotated the work of the class. Some learners would have the opportunity to work with Miss Jones or Miss Barbara for focus tasks, while others worked within the areas. This gave us the opportunity to work as ambitious and independent individuals in completing the work.
We have started on our class exhibition which includes some language tasks e.g. ‘Roundhouses For Sale' and a report on our journey to Llynon Mill. Here, you can see some of the shields we have been creating in our Art lessons with Miss Jones!
We had a great start to the half term with a trip to see the round houses at Llynon Mill. The class went to see the Windmill and inspected the equipment inside it. There was an opportunity for us to sit inside the round houses and learn about all the equipment, artefacts and weapons within it e.g. Wolves, leather skirts, Celtic costumes and much more.
We had a virtual lesson about Celtic life from a member of staff at St Fagans Museum. The lesson was extremely useful as we were allowed to explore different iron artefacts and have the opportunity to be archaeologists!
Before the Christmas holidays, the school was very busy preparing for our Christmas show (in a different way). We had the opportunity as blue class pupils to write a Christmas show ourselves. We came up with the idea of 'Adventures of the Elf on The Shelf' - where the evil Elf stole a magical battery from the Christmas clock. Father Christmas’ elves were actively looking everywhere for the battery, Christmas was almost cancelled! Until then, the Elf on The Shelf sat innocently in The Blue Class! We had a lot of fun acting, singing and filming in our costumes.
We are now distanct learning online. We receive work over Google Classroom. We connect and update Miss Jones with pictures and video's over Class Dojo. We have now started to have weekly meetings with our friends, Miss Jones and Miss Watson over Microsoft Teams!
